ABOUT GEOLINES AND CPT
GEOLINES LLC specializes in characterization of the subsurface using surface seismic geophysical methods and cone penetration testing (CPT). President and Principal Engineer Otto Holmquist is a longtime geotechnical engineer who immediately saw the benefit of CPT in the 1990s. Though an advocate for CPT over SPT during his time at various firms, it wasn’t until he established GEOLINES that Otto was able to make the switch to CPT.

What are the benefits of CPT testing?
The speed at which you can obtain quality data is unmatched. CPT allows me to complete a job in two days that would take a week using SPT.
Most importantly, I can get the client data in two days, not three weeks. Every time a geotechnical engineer sees how efficient it is, they are hooked.
What Vertek CPT system do you operate?
We use the S4 CPT Sounding System. It is a very versatile tool and perfect for sites where a truck can’t access.
You can easily hook it up to a number of pieces of construction equipment and we ended up purchasing a skid steer for it so it’s always ready to go.
How has your experience with Vertek support been?
We have really enjoyed our experience with Vertek. When we purchased the S4 about three years ago, Vertek sent a representative from Vermont to New Mexico to provide us training on how to maximize the S4.
Since then, Vertek has been very responsive and we are proud to support a U.S.-based company.
